About this project
An immersive experience, the work Zhongshan Bridge Forest draws on the topographical and historical context of the site, through a combination of sculpture, light and music.
To resonate with the memory of the place, a ‘forest’ of pillars has been installed to support this structure, which has been threatened many times. These sculptures give the impression that they have stood the test of time; they are chipped and fragile.
At the top of the pillars, built-in loudspeakers play a slow chant on a loop, immersing spectators in a deliberately strange, even unsettling sequence.
At the entrance to the bridge, transparent and translucent plastic sheets are suspended, swaying gently in the wind. A high-intensity light projects a constantly moving halo through them. It is projected towards the columns and the audience, reinforcing the vibratory and dramatic effect.

Pierre Delavie lives and works in Paris. He questions our perception of reality through monumental installations in cities. In his architectural Neo Rapt architectural, he destabilised the façade of the Grand Palais, offering stunned parisians a different perspective. In Marseille, he transformed La Canebière, creating a phantasmagoria that broke with our visual habits. Are we really there? Among his Nuit Blanche works, we remember the Conciergerie overturned along the Seine and the Royal Chapel of Versailles, which revealed its interior/intrados to the entire city. In Le Havre, a city renowned for its Eté au Havre contemporary art festival, his cargo ship, ironically named Down John, exploded a commercial terminal.
On a more intimate level, his in situ work and installations experiment with his own musical compositions, which are an integral part of the work, exploring the deep cognitive links that interact between the visual world and the world of sound. Take Austerlitz, which featured ten sound portraits of hurried travellers, each with their own little tune. At Place des Vosges, for the 2022 Nuit Blanche in Paris, the young King Louis XIII escaped from his statue under the gaze of sculptures, each producing a unique sound for a dissociated harmony.
