Liao Chien-Chung collects a large number of discarded household appliances to create a carousel. In terms of form, the artist’s intention to highlight issues of resource consumption is obvious. In terms of output value, this work serves as a powerful example of waste repurposing. But our focus remains on the interactive aspect: when this becomes a ride for children, when we begin to see it through the eyes of the carousel, it transforms into a fable. This home appliance carousel, which really works, offers not only reflection but also a social landscape that challenges our sense of humor.
The artists attempts to use a model simulation approach to simulate real things that are disguised and superficial. The aim is to reflect the various dilemmas and issues of contemporary life, prompting people to re-examine the environments they take for granted to evoke the personal life narratives behind the imitated objects, and in doing so, bringing forth broader social concerns.
