About this project
The remnants of every era were once scenes of life. In the Yuanshan shell mound, layers of shells, animal bones, pottery shards, and post holes tell silent stories of homes once built here. These incomplete remains and scattered tools raise questions of how people once lived.
This artwork was co-created with students from Taipei Municipal Dalong Elementary School, who handcrafted ceramic shells that have been fixed within a wooden house structure. The wooden house, gradually growing in scale, and the interspersed ceramic shells are illuminated by shifting light from day to night. Light passes through the forms, extending a
quiet atmosphere that evokes the traces of life and wisdom in past settlements. Each handmade fragment becomes a dialogue with history—a new “cultural stratum” layered onto the site, where memory, craft, and imagination converge.
