洪建全基金會創立於1971年,五十年來一直扮演教育和文化領域的開拓者,以非營利、實驗精神和多元文化的發展模式,支持贊助極少數創新者的創作及藝文展演。
七〇年代,以《書評書目》期刊開啟文學評論的先聲;成立台灣第一座視聽圖書館,及贊助出版民歌唱片帶動台灣民歌音樂的復興;在台灣經濟成長指數激增的八〇年代,「文經學苑」開創了人文與企業合一的先河;九〇年代創設「敏隆講堂」,推廣人文教育和深度閱讀文化。
2014年起,開始推動一系列藝術贊助計畫,透過委託及直接贊助,支持各類型跨領域創作的藝術實踐。展望未來五十年,基金會將繼續推動和支持前衛的思想與創作,在社會中扎根、萌芽和擴散,滋養一個「讓前衛文化進展的力量滲透到產業及社會中」的環境;讓創作成為企業、產業和社會的養分和動力。

For the past 50 years, Hong Foundation has helped to pioneer innovations in the educational and cultural sectors since 1971, encouraging the creation of non-profit, experimental, and diverse art and performances.
Throughout the 70s, the Foundation introduced the public to literary criticism through the publication of the Shu Ping Shu Mu Review of Books and Bibliography magazine, established Taiwan’s first audio-visual library, as well as sponsored the release of campus folk music albums which brought about a revival of the genre. During the rapid economic boom of Taiwan in the 80s, Hong Foundation’s Culture for Business Academy led the way in integrating humanistic learning and business philosophy. The Minlong Forum, conceived of in the 90s, fostered humanities education and an adult reading culture.
Starting in 2014, a series of arts sponsorship initiatives were launched to support artistic creators across all disciplines through commissions and direct sponsorships. For the next 50 years, Hong Foundation will continue to encourage and support avant-garde concepts and creations, so that this progressive attitude may take root, sprout, and spread throughout all industries and aspects of society. We hope to foster an environment where creation can nurture and invigorate businesses, industries, and society as a whole.

生態系統一詞不僅描述自然生態,在社會機制的各層面,健全的生態系統皆為不同企業、文化領域的目標。洪建全基金會多年來推廣文、史、哲、藝不遺餘力,以文化創投的精神,支持不同階段的藝術創作者。近來更與全球知名的藝術駐村機構「荷蘭皇家視覺藝術學院」(Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten)簽署成為國際合作夥伴,支持臺灣優秀藝術家前進國際。洪建全基金會透過直接贊助及委託創作的方式,鼓勵更多年輕的創作者們投入這個領域,讓臺灣當代藝術的發展更加成熟永續,儼然已經成為一個重要的藝術生態系。「造路者@白晝之夜-打造藝術生態系」希望由洪建全基金會、藝術家與策展人共同引領現場民眾,進行一場臺灣當代藝術巡禮。

The term “ecosystem” not only refers to nature but also describes the goal of building healthy systems across different industries and cultural fields. The Hong Foundation has long been dedicated to promoting literature, history, philosophy, and art, supporting artists at various stages with a spirit of cultural investment. Recently, it partnered with the world-renowned artist residency, Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, to help outstanding Taiwanese artists reach the international stage. Through direct sponsorships and commissioned works, the foundation encourages more young creators to enter the field, helping Taiwan’s contemporary art grow sustainably and establishing a vital artistic ecosystem.

“ROAD MAKER@ Nuit Blanche – Curating a flourishing ecosystem of art” invites the Hong Foundation, artists, and curators to lead the audience on a journey through Taiwanese contemporary art.

紀錄片《造路者 ROAD MAKER》為基金會 50 周年的特別企劃,由金馬獎得獎團隊蔡弦剛執導,拍攝對象從早期參與洪建全基金會發展的重量級藝文界人士,包括簡靜惠、黃春明、林懷民、詹宏志、楊弦、陶曉清等,到近期支持贊助的新生代藝術家,如張碩尹、鄭先喻、黃翊等,透過口述方式重現過去 50 年歷史,交錯穿插新世代洪裕鈞及張淑征對基金會下一個50年的展望。

The Hong Foundation’s 50th anniversary documentary ROAD MAKER, directed by Golden Horse Award-winning filmmaker Tubie Tsai, features key cultural figures who played a significant role in the foundation’s early development, including Celia Hong Chien Chinghui, Huang Chun-Ming, Lin Hwai-Min, Jan Hung-Tze, Yang Hsien, and Tao Hsiao-ching. It also highlights new-generation artists supported by the foundation, such as Chang Ting-Tong, Cheng HsienYu, and Huang Yi, who all reflect on the foundation’s 50-year history through personal accounts. Additionally, the film presents the perspectives of Royce YC Hong and Grace Cheung, representing the next-generation leaders’ vision for the foundation’s future.

In 2022, the Hong Foundation co-organized a 50th anniversary exhibition titled Transistors with MoCA Taipei. It featured artists who had been supported by the Foundation over the years, revisiting classic works such as the Tung Chung Prize, the Question Project, and the Extension Project, as well as showcasing newly commissioned creations specifically for this 50th anniversary exhibition.

2022年洪建全基金會50周年之際,與台北當代藝術館MoCA共同合作的展覽「轉接器 TRANSISTORS 」,集結基金會歷來支持贊助的藝術家,包括許家維、張碩尹、鄭先喻、李明學、石晉華等,重現過去覓計畫「銅鐘藝術賞」、「問問題計畫」、「認養計畫」的經典作品,以及為此展覽特別委託之5件新作:洪裕鈞《創變瞬態》、許家維《電子流動》錄像作品、張碩尹《R1》、鄭先喻《Annoyanony》及李明學《動物島計畫》系列作品。

In 2022, the Hong Foundation co-organized a 50th anniversary exhibition titled Transistors with MoCA Taipei. It featured artists who had been supported by the foundation over the years, including Hsu Chia-Wei, Chang Ting-Tong, Cheng HsienYu, Lee Ming-Hsueh, and Shi Jin-Hua, revisiting classic works such as the Tung Chung Prize, the Question Project, and the Extension Project, as well as showcasing newly commissioned creations specifically for this 50th anniversary exhibition: Transient State by Royce YC Hong, Electronic-mobility by Hsu Chia-Wei, R1 by Chang Ting-Tong, Annoyanony by Cheng HsienYu, and the Animal Island Project by Lee Ming-Hsueh.

The Tung Chung Prize, an initiative of the Hong Foundation, aims to act as cultural venture capital, nurturing artists and creators at the early conceptual stage of their creative work.

隱藏在展題「鬼魂與深藍海」之下,藝術家提供了兩重意義來理解散佈於非亞海洋中的「鬼魂」:在全球化建制中被忽略的華人角色;以及在如同神經通路的海底電纜中所傳輸的信息。從勞動力到科技輸出,曾經的海上絲路、亞洲苦力、海底電纜以及智慧城市構想共同建造了這個敘事中的世界。然而這個世界遍佈著灰色地帶:和意識形態掛鉤的自由貿易承諾,源自於種族主義而始終隱伏的威脅論,以及全面監控技術背後懸而未決的安全威脅。

Implied in the exhibition title, “Ghost in the Sea,” is the artist’s allusion to a dual interpretation of “ghost” that haunt the seas of Asia and Africa: firstly, the overlooked role of ethnic Chinese in the mechanisms of globalization; and secondly, the intangible data transmitted through the ersatz neural network of submarine cables. From labor exportation to technological dissemination, the ancient Maritime Silk Road, Asian coolies, modern submarine cables, and the concept of smart cities combine to construct the world in this narrative. However, grey areas are pervasive in this world: the ideological entanglements of free trade, the insidious narratives of fear grounded in racism, and unresolved security concerns inherent in comprehensive surveillance technologies.

「同化者」試圖探索現代科技框架之下,網路世界全球化的現象對人類生活的影響。當人類受科技宰制失去主宰權,在被同化的過程中,是否還擁有「個體思考」與「想像」的能力?藝術家鄭先喻長期關注科技衍生的行為現象、情緒智商與心理反應,將機械與人性運作之中那些關於人類情感的矛盾、道德衝突等現世議題,做了另類註解以及新的闡釋。

Assimilator seeks to explore the impact of the globalization of the internet on human life under the framework of modern technology. When human beings lose their autonomy under the domination of digital technology, do they still retain the ability to ‘think’ and ‘imagine’ during the process of assimilation? The artist Hsien-Yu CHENG has long been concerned with exploring behavioral phenomena, emotional intelligence and psychological responses derived from technological interaction. His works provide alternative interpretations and explanations of the contradictions and moral conflicts perceptible in the operations between machinery and humankind.

藝術家許家維以動物角度去考掘歷史,從現代網路關鍵字,梳理台灣與亞洲在歷史脈絡及自然地理上的關係,以影像敘事解構殖民時期與全球化發展的歷史路徑,扣合東亞的貿易網絡。展覽串聯故事、影像、歷史、信仰、漫才演說和新聞紀實等內容與形式,形成一個反思歷史的介面,呈現出超越台灣脈絡的跨文化視角。

In this work, the artist Chia-Wei HSU explores history from an animal’s perspective. Beginning with a number of keywords searched online, he dissects the relationship between Taiwan and Asia in terms of historical context and physical geography. Deploying a range of visual narratives, he deconstructs the historical path of both the colonial period and globalization, and links these to East-Asian trade networks. The exhibition combines stories, images, history, religion, manzai comedy performance, and journalistic news reports to present a cross-cultural perspective that looks beyond the context of Taiwan, and forms a springboard from which we can reflect upon history.

「問問題計畫」為洪建全基金會的藝術委託創作項目。每年提出一個單純的問題,探討社會、文化與生命內涵。透過藝術家的新創作回應問題,挑戰當前既定觀點,啟發觀眾更多提問。

The Question Project is a commissioning program for the production of new works of the Hong Foundation. The Question Project poses one question each year to explore ideas on society, culture and existence. Responding to issues raised by these questions through newly produced works, the selected artists challenge prevailing views, encouraging audience members in turn to ask more questions.

香蕉不僅是熱帶地區常見的一種經濟作物,與上個世紀的殖民地農業和治理技術也有著高度牽連。它見證了帝國的擴張慾望,也演示了以交易為名的榨取及其後的崩解。當價值與價格的關係日漸偏離、交易的形象又不斷蛻變,現行經濟、金融體系的信任機制是否能打造人類的烏托邦?如果它早已注定要瓦解,我們又將如何從中挖掘出逃脫的通道?

Bananas are not only a common cash crop grown throughout the tropics, but are also a product with inescapable connections to the methods of colonial agriculture and governance from the last century. Bananas bore witness to the Japanese Empire’s desire for expansion, forming a constituent part of both the colonial act of extraction in the name of trade and its subsequent collapse. In the present day context, if the relationship between value and price is always steadily diverging, and given our constantly evolving understanding of the nature of transactions, can the trust mechanisms of current economic and financial models ever create the effective conditions for constructive utopia building? And if such systems are structurally primed for collapse, then what might our possible escape routes be?

The exhibition “Second Life”, co-curated by Ting-Tong Chang and HsienYu Cheng, creates an experimental space that combines ecological cycles and digital technology to explore the meaning of life in contemporary times. Through interactive gameplay, the exhibition invites participants to reconsider human decision-making processes, where every choice leads to a series of positive or negative effects. Amidst the endless lists of all our seemingly mundane to-dos, each and every choice we make involves the questioning of our concepts of morality and ethics.

「大洪水」是世界上約254個民族、84種語言區域的共同傳說,描述著人類渾沌之初、死亡重生與世界的變遷,在世代交疊的口傳、文字傳遞下不斷產生變異,轉化為「意識狀」的敘事形態。這些「意識狀」的敘事形態卻又在不同文化間體現極相似的現象,似乎點出它們曾經經歷某種共時性 (Synchronicity) 的由來。口傳神話之偏離邏輯與現實的特徵,則提供了另一種對創世共通想像的「知識訊息」管道。

Myths of the “Great Flood” exist in more than 254 ethnic groups and are told in 84 different languages. These legends about the beginning of humankind, death, rebirth and the vicissitudes of the world were passed down from generation to generation first through spoken words, then in writing. This dissemination process transfigures these myths over time into a collective “narratives of consciousness,” similarities of which suggest that different cultures perhaps have had synchronous experiences despite their differences. Unbounded by reality or logic, these myths may provide an alternative to the “knowledge information” of our empirical world.

展覽作品之作品現成物皆標示保存期限至2018年8月11日止。本藝術行動將8月11日這天到期日於展覽現場所有商品食品重新再現,舉辦一場「811今日特餐」。藝術家李明學與王董碩以食物設計的概念進行展演,將食品的形式、結構及身份重新演繹成一道道美味佳餚,邀請報名觀眾一同享用,透過「食」探討當代生活的消費與消耗文化,紀念也是重現保存期限最後一天,讓觀眾在身體裡能收藏一件短暫的藝術品。

On August 11th, the artists put all the food products on display once more for an event named “811 Special.” Artists Ming-Hsueh LEE and Tung-Shuo WANG created a show around food design in which they took the form, structure, as well as identity of food products and reinterpreted them into one delicious dish after another. They invited the audience to taste the food, to consider the current culture of consumption, and to commemorate the last day of the food products’ shelf lives. Through this event, the audience had the opportunity to collect a short-lived work of art in their bodies. Special thanks to our tableware sponsor Leofoo Tourism Group.

李明學從商品保存期限之議題出發,反思我們身處的消費文化,探討當代生活確定與不確定性的模糊狀態。「保存期限」往往直接影響了顧客的消費判斷與動機,為商品套上了一個人為的標準框架,這一道人工防線同時也在無形中界定、制約了社會對生產與消耗的價值定義。

Beginning with the idea of the shelf life of goods, Ming-Hsueh LEE calls attention to the consumer culture we live in and explores the ambiguity of the certain/uncertain in contemporary life. Expiration dates — a man-made benchmark we’ve imposed on goods and products — often directly affects a consumer’s choices or motivation for buying an item. This artificial threshold also implicitly defines and delineates the importance our societies place upon production and consumption.
